January 2016 Bridge Project

What does it look like to build a bridge in a week?

Well, to start with here is what it looks like to realize a bridge does in deed need to be built.

This log is the old "bridge", mostly used when the water was too high to wade through and certainly not used when it was under water or had been washed away.

Either way moms with babies and toddlers, preschoolers and elderly all had to cross on this, or wade through the river, or walk over an hour to the closest safe crossing.

Look at their feet and the steepness of the grade. Wow!

This is why, so this mom and her children can cross safely.

What a beautiful view from the bridge site.

150 feet from one bridge platform straight across the ravine to the other platform.

The locals must volunteer their time.
Cement is carried down 100 feet to river bed where it is mixed.

The "pump trucks" carrying the wet concrete 100 feet back up to the pour site.

Closer look at cement pours in Honduras.
